Safety Planning

Whether you are planning to leave your abuser or have already left, a carefully laid out safety plan will help you be prepared in an emergency situation, and increase your chances of not being harmed during a violent episode. Emergency Shelter

Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties provides victims of Georgetown & Horry Counties safe refuge. Our emergency shelter addresses your crucial safe housing needs in the midst of your crisis. A case manager will help you identify the basic needs for your family and goals will be established based on your individual circumstances with a primary focus on safety & self sustainability. Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties shelter is staffed 24 hours/day and is equipped with a state of the art security system.


Intake Assessment

On your initial visit or call to Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties, a victim’s advocate will complete an intake assessment to determine how to best serve you. You and our advocate will determine what services you need. Once the assessment is completed, the advocate will make referrals to one of our in-house service providers and/or partners, advocates and/or community providers.


Court Advocacy

Our family violence advocates specialize in providing assistance to victims of family violence. They have an understanding of the criminal, civil and social service systems in our community. Advocates can also provide you practical and emotional support.  Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties advocates can explain what law enforcement and courts can do for you and how they function in Georgetown & Horry County. They can help you navigate the system and process of pressing charges and/or obtaining an order of protection. Our Court Advocates will help you complete the necessary paperwork to petition the Family Court for an order of protection and can accompany you in court.


Case Management

A case manager at Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties will work with you in identifying and establishing goals based on your needs. The case manager then provides guidelines for accomplishing those goals. As you consistently work towards meeting your goals the case manager can help you connect with resources i.e. financial assistance, housing, employment, child care and life skills classes.


Order of Protection

An order of protection is granted in Family Court. It helps protect you from harassment or abuse. In an order of protection a judge will set boundaries on your partner’s behavior. A typical order will include your partner not being able to contact you or attempt to communicate with you, or come to your home or work. If married, custody and possession of the home and vehicle may be addressed. You are the party that brings this action to court and only you have the right to dismiss it after a judge has issued an order. To dismiss an order of protection you must go back in front of the judge and ask for a dismissal. An order of protection is a temporary action and is usually in place six months or one year.


Counseling

Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties has counselors on staff to help you in crisis situations as well as ongoing emotional healing from the trauma of domestic violence. If your situation requires outside counseling resources the Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Countiescounselor will work with you to make the necessary referrals.


Support Groups

Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties offes Domestic Violence Support Groups led by a trained counselor, and is designed to help with the healing process from the emotional pains of domestic violence. In a peer setting, the group focuses on relational as well as interpersonal skills.


Parenting Classes

Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties has weekly parenting classes that focus on implementing and building positive parenting techniques. Participants are clients of Family Justice Center or are referred from outside agencies. Please contact one of the offices to learn more about participation. 

Housing Case Management

Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties offers a housing program to help assist clients with affordable, safe housing. If you are interested in this program please contact one of our offices to learn more.
